I think so. Like with all the chimp and gorilla English language stuff, it seems to mostly be people deluding themselves into thinking the animals are really *using* *english* to communicate (sometimes, very deeply incl. using humor etc), which they are not.

I don’t think anyone disputes that a dog can learn a button gets its a treat & smart dogs might even be able to figure out like “this is the treat one and this is the walk one” or w/e, but she was suggesting that the dog was asking about ocean tides iirc
