Either way, we're looking at an enormous repository of cultural artifacts being rendered largely unusable for historical research or archiving.

Creators can turn it off (for now), and viewers can switch to the original upload (for now), but:

1. those are additional hurdles to get to the original experience;

2. there's no guarantee that those "choices" will remain ones we can make.
