Final advice from Natascha: Use your network. Compare contracts!

Final advice: Alice says if you see a deadline for author, make sure there’s a commensurate deadline for the publisher.

Oh! High discount copies! Pay attention to how your publisher defines those. Great point, Alice. Writers may need to push back on early high discounts and make sure they pay attention to their contracts.

Alice also points toward audio rights — publishers want them and really don’t want to revert them. Even if they have done nothing with them.

Natascha reminds us that France does not allow a waiver. Also, if publishers are requiring a waiver, build in consent for edits or revision.

Heading into a moral rights waiver discussion. Alice notes that they are not that common. If she was arguing with a publishing about these waivers, she would still want to see
1. Author’s name on the cover
2. Right to approve edits

Warranties clauses should cover authenticity claims, says Alice. But there is an appeal here for indie authors.

And Natascha Morris says - hold off before taking any action. And this could have a big impact on book pricing as well, like a nonGMO label.

Victoria Strauss asked about authentication services; she is…not impressed;)
