Retired government/public interest lawyer who fled DC, eventually to life on a PacNW island. Yearn for less interesting times, but too cantankerous to sit back.

Hannah Arendt is still right, damn it.
Kurt Vonnegut had thoughts on this way back when (see RAMJAC Corporation).

I had a job for years that required me to type “public works” a lot.
You can imagine the proof reading…and the inevitable, embarrassing typos.

Some typos in a book don’t bother me at all. They remind me we are all human, despite the machinery drenching us on all sides. It’s weirdly reassuring.

Going forward, we need to keep alive the idea of good and reliable government.

We’ve already lost college so affordable/free with grants that students could enter with wonder and uncertainty, medical costs that didn’t shackle you to a hateful job, less $ in politics, enforcing voting rights.

Good point. As a UM grad, extra kudos to you for making this specific point. You’re right that that he has no clue and is utterly disinterested in learning anything that might interfere with his hatred.

In addition to the racism, people with these views are missing out on some of the best aspects of humanity: different cultures, languages, cuisines, manners of dress, literature. A smorgasbord of delights if you open your eyes without closing your heart.

Same issue here but cell phones and waiting for a new card…sigh.

Does he think he’s pulling a Mamdani here? Spoiler alert: he’s not. Unfriggingbelievable.
Takes away the entire immigration issue and the profound unconstitutionality and cruelty of what ICE is doing. Argh!

Ordered from Bookshop and eager to read it! Congrats!

Thanks for this.

I like how G-R maintains the tension in TJ’s actions/writings re slavery without forcing resolution. Many if us carry inherent contradictions, but TJ’s are heartbreaking. Could he have helped end slavery sooner? Doubt it, but the effort would have made me respect him more.

On the other hand, this is the accumulation of a lot of things that weren’t going very well. The damage is real and devastating, and this gives us a chance to shift paradigms in health care, immigration, incarceration, money in politics, etc.

I didn’t think you would, but I didn’t find much that was persuasive after searched the brand name. The ELAH study was pretty convincing, though.
(I find it a little tricky to get the right tone here when I have a sincere Q and want to learn more.)
Thanks again!

Thanks for this. I can’t tell you how much I want this to be effective.

The link shows it was effective in vitro, not in human subjects but I’ll keep looking at this and other nasal sprays, as you suggest. Thanks for sparking my interest!

This country has had an accountability problem since at least the Civil War, as in we’ve never done it effectively.

In Dec. 1865, the defeated Confederacy’s Vice President, Alexander Stephens, was in DC when Congress reconvened, having been elected as a Senator from Georgia.

Bygones, really?

Great idea!

One of my favorites was also Super Bowl Sunday, especially when the local team was playing. Store was empty.

I didn’t know anything about this, but I was excited about it. Seeing no research results on their website re effectiveness and safety, I searched for peer reviewed studies and found this from 2024.

I don’t think FDA is perfect, but the lack of data about leaves me 😷

Thank you. Didn’t know that.

Knowing nothing about this —

Wait - the Boy Scouts get federal funding? Do Girl Scouts — or do they sell cookies instead? (Training for PTA bake sales?)

Excellent advice! Such a good book I bought a copy after getting it from the library. I keep thinking about it and wanted to go back and re-read sections.

Fine. But first bring back free hot meals with actual silverware and cloth napkins with enough room to eat without jabbing one another.

Any chance of an “electrotech” heat pump being available, say, next month to get the expiring tax credit?

Asking for a friend…with lousy timing.

Thanks for doing this, Senator.

I’m guessing they say “high risk pools” so people won’t know what it means or how it affects them. Appreciate you making it clear.

Those were awful days. Felt like a pre-existing condition was being human and coverage was incredibly expensive or denied altogether.

Can’t dispute that because I’ve been aiming for weaker tea lately. Can’t handle the caffeine in multiple cups of the strong stuff and I want multiple cups!
