A researcher of data use and privacy in complex technical systems after 20+ yrs as a journalist reporting on data-centric tech. Music nerd, forest walker, raptor watcher and fan of the NY Mets. KEEPIN THAT PMA.
So I'm not suggesting all the other stuff people here are discussing is not happening.

I expect we will see larger gaps between the cognitive and critical thinking haves and the have nots with brain rot. It sucks.

Other thoughts: I volunteered to help teach a HS journalism class for several weeks this yr-there were a few kids who showed strong aptitude & critical thought, unprompted ideas. In one of Portland's 'worst' high schools.

And I hear HS & young adults speak eloquently in radio, etc. Just sayin.

Been a journo for 25+ yrs, but got an art degree in early '90s so I could avoid writing. Also will note in very early reporting days I didn't love reading how a topic was covered elsewhere bc it signaled to my insecure self someone else may have done it better.

Stupid but true. People can change.

As someone who writes deeply researched reports w hundreds of citations I actually read at least in part to ensure they’re solid, relevant, & ummm… real, it is immensely disillusioning to see this shitty corner-cutting approach to research happening.

Maybe real research stands out more than ever?

what are some 'cutting edge ideas for moderation and trust & safety" - anything you'd point to specifically in regards to 'trust' - ?
