@katecohen.bsky.social
Author of "We of Little Faith," former columnist at the Washington Post, parent, cook, reader, atheist, leftie (both kinds).
Here I’ll save you: mistaken mess of pseudo-profundities ending w/: “Eventually Americans, restless as any people on earth, will want to replace threat with hope and resume our national pilgrimage. When that cultural and spiritual shift occurs, a lot will change in our religious and political life.”

The number of unsubstantiated assertions and unacknowledged assumptions in a random David Brooks paragraph never fails to astound me. We salute you, sir, whoever "we" might be.

Do we really have to say "Liberals say" here? Isn't it just a true thing that is happening?

@dartmouthcollege.bsky.social Did you mean this or was this just to make the concept of "institutional restraint" sound reasonable? If the former, please sign the AAC&U letter along with your peer institutions or you won't be their peer anymore.

Any day now we'll have the option of purchasing Enhanced Citizenships at different price points. Platinum Level includes habeas corpus and the right to vote.

This analogy works in the only respect that Daniels fails to mention: higher ed has angered the capricious Trump Almighty and He has sought vengeance. As it is written "The Lord is righteous, yet I rebelled against his command." (Lamentations 1:18)

"Why did you vote for Trump?"

"Well I just think, totally of my own accord, that Harvard has gotten too uppity."

OK all you "Yes / But" ers. Tell me just how conformity was "enforced"

Tax Day used to make me feel patriotic. My fellow Americans and I were pooling our money to do what we couldn't do alone: protect our food supply, fight human trafficking, preserve national parks, prevent epidemics. (And yes, bad stuff too, but that's what elections are for.) This year I feel sick.

This from NYT is slightly better, although I think it should be "claims to be antisemitism" — I don't think they really believe this stuff. Just performative lib-owning.

Who? Who's been angry? What is "That" doing there? Why is it so hard to write a headline?
