If this was a run and this was my watch, you best believe I’d be scampering around the car park to complete that mile and a bit more…

I will try not to spend it all at once.

If I had a run this morning, but Strava’s down, did I actually have a run?

[Yes, yes I did! And it was accompanied by a rainbow!]

Happy Monday! I was having a good day until I was reminded by the SS Richard Montgomery… via @kentcurrent.news

Ran the Vitality 10K face!

Managed to knock 2.5 mins off last year’s time, too. Think that warrants putting my feet up this afternoon!

Two perspectives of the theatre at Uncanny last night in Brighton with @aridge.bsky.social! Inept purple squiggle roughly locates our spot! It was fab, though I remain #TeamSceptic

Yep, we certainly did! Postman Pat: Special Delivery was such a… treat in the CBeebies years. I think it later contributed to my son penning a number of “missives” to Yodel etc when they weren’t making PP:SDS-style efforts to get dinosaur toys to him during COVID…

A vulpine interruption at the Hundred yesterday…

In the late 1940s, my grandma, Hilda, played for her village football team: Grassmoor Ladies. I’m sure if she was still around she’d be thrilled to see the Lionesses in their fourth Euros final! In this photo, she’s in the back row, third from the right.

Honoured to join my colleagues for the final graduation ceremony at Rochester Cathedral for our BSc Social Sciences & BA Criminal Justice & Criminology. It’s been an honour and pleasure to work with our amazing students at Medway - and I’ve been part of an awesome team along the way! 1/2

Finally having a spring clean, found the Cursèd Gingerbread Man behind the sofa. I thought this awful product of a parent-child rushed homework task was in the bin, but NO, apparently it can never leave this house…

But why?

80 years ago, in the run-up to VE Day, my grandad was about to ship out from Fife to Europe and what would be the Polish occupation zone in Haren/Maczków. About 18 months later, he came back to the UK and joined the Polish Resettlement Corps, becoming a miner.

My personal collection! No idea why I forgot to get the third - next time!

So… I ran the Brighton Marathon on Sunday. It was brutal - just sooo hot! - but it was utterly brilliant. The crowds were amazing, bringing the encouragement as well as (in Hove) the hoses & water to cool us down. And, yes, I’ll be back next year to try and beat that inaugural PB!

This arrived in the post today, and I’ve been oscillating between excitement and terror ever since! Less than two weeks to go now…

Don’t recall any hoodies or sweatshirts (outside of the sports teams at least) at Goldsmiths 1996-99… I’m sure the bookshop sold some merch, but also no scarves in play. Saw Kent ones in the later 00s & 10s… & modelled a School one in 2019! De rigueur by then 2/2

To be fair, at least Duolingo gets it out of the way early doors!

I didn’t get any snaps, alas! It was Not Good at that point, desperately in need of a reno. I *think* it was the one at the very end, which was dual aspect over the entrance to the hall.

The rest are in my office, but here’s a selection I found in my camera archive! These grandparents were very into the Rechabites, which is a whole other tier of friendly society/insurance commitment - I have some Rechabite stuff kicking around, too.

An old friend was returned to me today… well before Kent started using Panopto software, my colleagues & I used a digital recorder to capture our lectures. If it still works, it will have an after-life with student dissertation interview recordings

Back from a fab afternoon listening to Ben Aaronovitch talking about his Rivers of London books as part of the Medway River Lit festival, down at Rochester Library. Finished my marking so I have time to enjoy the newest novella!

And that’s the final panel and round table at the workshop in honour of Pat Thane! It’s been a fantastic day at @ihr.bsky.social, event supported by the Royal Historical Society, @socialhistsoc.bsky.social and the IHR.

I ran the Royal Parks half marathon this morning, taking 20 mins off my previous half time. Thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored me so far - if you are able to support me, here’s the link: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/...
