Chatted with my mom and aunt this morning. They’re in good spirits and just want this to be over. They have electricity currently but family in other parts of the island more directly in the path have lost electricity.

what you have to know is that it’s been raining for most of october in jamaica so the ground is already saturated

and we actually rarely get a direct hit from a hurricane. I was there for one of the near misses (Ivan in 2004) and that was one of the most terrifying nights.
