Had a lot of fun at Hot Docs' Curious Mind Festival yesterday, chatting about Toronto's Video Game Scene (thanks to Kevin Ly for the photos!)

Happy Halloween! I can’t remember the last time I put this much effort into a costume. Only the best for best boy Squall

I’m still obsessed! Look at this indignant little guy because he wants to steal somebody else’s nachos

Love the “I need a snack!” angry face. Love its determination that it deserves to steal that other dude’s snack. 10/10

I’ve played through so much Is This Seat Taken? today! It’s so chill and fun and I’m obsessed with these highly dramatic little shapes and their inherent petty drama

We dressed up as our D&D characters tonight! I love my silly satyr monk character a lot

Started playing You Will Die Here Tonight with my partner tonight and it’s so much fun!

The mechanical twist (switching between teammates after you die) is clever and adds some neat decision-making to the survival nature of it all.

Yesterday was the Trans March in Toronto, and the storm held off.

Happy Pride, I love being genderfluid and queer!

Also still my favourite pull quote from any interview I've given (about Lady Dimitrescu)

I’m close to finishing my replay of FF8 and that means soon I’ll stop posting only about it BUT UNTIL THEN I’m still utterly obsessed with Rinoa & Squall and how the whole literal game’s plot is their love story, a big ol’ cosmic romance of a plot. Their love defies time & space and saves the day!!

Also, I love these two!!! I’m an absolute sucker for melodramatic love stories that fuck with time and space (I’m a biiiig Rose/10th Doctor fan for a reason), and maybe that reason is partially because of Squall & Rinoa

It’s my birthday today (37??) and my friends and I got a few boxes of play boosters for Innistrad Remastered to do our own sealed event 🖤

I’ve been reading a lot more recently, and in particular I’ve been really enjoying this vein of unhinged literary writing by women. Chaotic, incisive, and viciously vulnerable.

“Sisters” and “I’m A Fan” in particular have some beautiful prose that I highly recommend.

In incomprehensible pain from period cramps today (one of those days where if I’m not unconscious, I can barely even speak from how painful it is) and Gully is very aware of his job to comfort me

Crush House is so much fun. I love the shot-composition puzzles combined with the audience satisfaction mechanics so much.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau is gorgeous. I’m pretty terrible at platforming combat (a theme for me) but Zau’s world and abilities made me want to succeed and not give up. There’s a really beautiful rhythm to the mechanics that’s natural and challenging.

Okay, adding a few more while I chill post-travel and drink some wine lol

I haven’t finished Sorry We’re Closed because I’m terrible at combat but I adore everything it’s doing. Its vibe, its style, its characters. When I’m back home from the holidays, it’s the first game I’m diving back into.

Flock got me through a very bad patch. It was so soothing and I adore games that a) let me really get to know and understand a limited environment, in all its visual, mechanical, and auditory glory, and b) fill out a field guide of weird little guys.

Other games I loved! Crow Country and Fear the Spotlight are just great old school survival horror games that revel in the joy of those games. Well done, nostalgic yet modern

I want to do a thread of games that really stuck with me this year!

I felt like I hadn’t been playing a lot this year but turns out I had and there were so many incredible games with such different playstyles

I’ll start with my top 4 of the year because that’s how many pics I can upload at once

You are what you Play: a queer femme horror writer lmao

My Nintendo year in review is like "here are the wonderfully written games you've played, stacked alongside Mario Kart 8, where you deal with your depression by fixating on getting gold stars on all of the levels at all of the speeds".
