Yes it was 5e, and I did point out that section for the earlier roll which their response was that's not DnD. For the survival bit it wasn't even a question of different abilities it was the book says wilderness in the skill description and you are in a ruined city that's not wilderness.

Earlier that session they didn't like the fact I suggested if I could use con+acrobatics as a monk to brace myself in a crashing vehicle because the book says acrobatics is dex. I just be like I'm going to roll this instead I was hey could I roll this instead because than gave a long explanation.
