I think graphic novels are such a good way to tell history, especially from an individual’s perspective. I wish he was still around for all the reasons, including that he could finish telling his story this way. 💡📚💙

This is about the man who spearheaded the passage of the Pure Food Act & the eventual creation of the FDA. Given the current state of things, it was pretty disheartening to read, but still very interesting. 💡📚💙

This was an interesting multiverse story where the characters are aware of it but only get little glimpses. I think when I was using the reader to narrate it, it made it a little confusing to keep the characters straight though.

I read this for the #MassCenterForTheBook October challenge of a book published by a Massachusetts press. Each chapter was like a different essay & some of them were really good, though some of them felt more like stream of consciousness.

Went to Costco Plus World Market & secured some Christmas crackers & stocking stuffers. The 3 year old’s favorite is Kuromi so I was bullied into buying this. I do appreciate the #KuromifyTheWorld though. I switch between Chococat & Aggretsuko being my favorite.

This is the third installment in the trilogy, though I think the door was left open for more if the author wants to. Like the others, this was an enjoyable historical romance, this one being an enemies to lovers romp. 🌶️📚💙

Channeled my inner midwesterner & made Chex mix & Rice Krispie treats. My Chex mix usually has whatever I have on hand to add in so this time there is gardettos garlic chips, pretzels, potato sticks, French’s fried onions & Trader Joe’s sweet & salty umami crunchies.

This one was pretty interesting, fiction but about the invention of soap operas.

I thought this one was a really compelling story. This might have been my favorite of the set.

It feels kind of cheating to include short stories in my count but then, eff that nonsense. This was an interesting story that helped me through doing the dishes. 📚💙

The other book that I read in this series felt like a book that everyone could (should) read, including kids, while this one felt more like it was written for kids to read. It was still interesting & I learned a ton. It made a good Hispanic Heritage Month read. 💡📚💙

Kids got invited to a movie night at a friend’s so I made some soft pretzels to take over with them. Recipe is from Savory Baking by Erin Jeanne McDowell. It was easy enough that the 3 year old helped with the shaping. I’m going to have to make a batch again because I didn’t even get to try them.

I read this for one of the fall goodreads challenges, I’m not really into spooky or horror so picking one that qualified was tricky. This one was witches so it wasn’t so bad on that front, it was actually pretty interesting. Enemies to lovers too. 📚💙

This was an enjoyable & emotional read. It’s got a Sliding Doors kind of plot, which is even mentioned in the book when the main character realizes what she is experiencing. It’s got both love & loss. 🌶️📚💙

What can I say? There’s a reason this man just won a MacArthur Genius Award, he is a very good writer. This ultimately ends up as a sequel to There, There but there’s a lot of story to get there & it’s really interesting.

Next up for our #FridayCookieChat I made fluffernutter cookie sandwiches from someone’s old blog post that I saved years ago. These got the 🦭 of approval. Basically just big peanut butter cookies, sandwiching fluff & then partially dipped in ganache. I froze some to see how they turn out. #BakeSky 🍪

This took me a long time to get through, not because it wasn’t good but because I kept running out of time on other books. I ended up renewing it twice then getting the audiobook & having the physical copy come available again from the library.

It’s hard to tell from the picture but the title is Zachary Ying & the Dragon Emperor. It’s a middle grade about a Uyghur boy from Maine who gets possessed by the 1st emperor of China.

This is one where I totally judged the book by its cover & wanted it. I take issue with an underwater archaeologist also doing treasure hunting but otherwise it was really good. Really interesting dual timeline story with lots of suspense. 📚💙

Continuing with #FridayCookieChat offerings, I made fruit cookie pizza. Years ago I found a #wilton giant cookie pan on clearance & it works great. I use the cookie recipe that came with it & my sister’s recipe for the filling since this is her usual dish to pass & I ❤️ family connection. #BakeSky

Fun sapphic historical romance full of Latinx characters. This is the second in the series.
