I spent the day in my “photo studio” (a table with a light on it) taking pictures of all my BOOKS!
It deals real good making three graphic novels 😁😁😁
A collection of Julie’s creations. All books or zines. They are haphazardly piled on top of each other in an attempt at showing off how many books Julie has made. There is “POSE!” A reference guide, A sketchbook, The great comic tree anthology, a round robin, an hourly comic day zine, a daily drawing art journal, “the making of a hole new world”, Lover buoys, I quit my job and cycled to Rome and a hole new world. All three graphic novels that Julie Mapes has created to date layed on a table splayd like a small hand of cards. Left to right there is Lover buoys, a hole new world and I quit my job and cycled to Rome. A picture of the cycle diary comic “I quit my job and cycled to Rome” Displayed is the front and back cover. On the front is julie, author, adventurer and illustrator sitting on my bike with four panniers attached to their bike. Behind is a view of the Italian alps. On the back shows some illustrations of things that are to come, such as Julie looking mad, the colosseum and a pretty lake. An open copy of the book “a hole new world” it is of a scene of the main character, Reid, discovering a mysterious puncture wound on their chest and investigating it. They also check their heartbeat only to find that they are dead. It is illustrated in a style similar to manga.

Day 23-25, Gardolo to Venice.
Illustrated travel comic from “I quit my job and cycled to Rome” series. Day 23 Gardolo to merlo I avoid a hill by drinking my first Italian coffee which was delicious. I suffer up a hill. I swim in a lake. I once again marvel at how pretty the alps are. I struggle to find a campsite because of flood plains and cliffs. I find a horrific spot next to a town, in a thorn patch in the dark. Day 24 Merlo to Venice Illustrated travel comic from “I quit my job and cycled to Rome” series. I leave my campsite VERY early. I marvel at nearby villiage up a hill. I contain about Italian cycle infrastructure. I get eaten alive by mosquittos. I meet up with Allex, a fellow traveler I met in Munich. We have pizza and talk about Taiwanese puppets. Illustrated travel comic from “I quit my job and cycled to Rome” series. Day 25 - Venice I cycle over the causeway to Venice. I have no luggage so I feel like I have a cycle superpower. I marvel at Venice. It is very beautiful. I go to the mariner museum and fall in love with all the tiny boat models. Illustrated travel comic from “I quit my job and cycled to Rome” series. Venice part 2 I am asleep in the hostel. I am rudely awakened at 3 am and am mad about it. I go to sassily look over at the guys who are making a lot of noise, only to discover that’s the police who arrested one of our room-mates. Me and the ones left in the room gossip once they are gone.

There are dinghies laying out and anti - curse propaganda posters (that include Baird.) In the foreground, there are men in religious gowns interrogating a concerned looking citizen. Panel 2 - Rayne is sitting down at an outdoor cafe, sipping on an espresso. His outfit is different. He is wearing the same white shirt with floppy sleeves as well as the same buckled shoes. However, his trousers are full length and tight leather. His shirt is also laced down, revealing some of his pectorals and chest hair. He is also wearing gloves instead of rings on his hands. And earrings. Panel 3 - He notices something. Panel 4 - A woman is looking at him. (Angela, a member of the Seavixen pirates.) Panel 5 - She gestures for him to follow her into an alley and he does, hands in pockets, comfortable. Page 14 Panel 1 - Rayne “ah, Angela, always a pleasure!” She asks “Can I assume you succeeded in your Mission? Panel 2 - Rayne, leaning against the wall, hand on hip. “Why, of course! I’ve set you up a window into the royal chambers.” He hands her a wooden block wrapped in fabric. She takes it as Rayne warns her “Make sure to keep it heavily wrapped, sound goes both ways. I will keep it open for you for 24 hours.” Angela says “Thank you.” Panel 3 - Angela looks up, shoving the portal into her side bag. Panel 4 - Angela says “As we agreed…” She hands him a pouch. Rayne nods. Angela continues “And one more thing… Panel 5 - Angela close up. “...You asked us to look out for people. Well I’ve found someone.” Page 16, full page of black fading into light Corry is lying unconscious under the mottled light of trees. Page 17 Panel 1 - A view of Corry's face, close up. his eyes are closed, his nose is bruised and bloodied, highlighted by the lighting. Panel 2 - Same view, Corry opens his eyes. Panel 3 - Corry sits up, looking to the side, confused. Panel 4 - Corry holds his head in his hands, another headache. Panel 5 - He brushes his nose, looking to the side. Panel 6 - He winces, it’s swollen, there’s dried blood coming out of it (its broken) Panel 7 - He resets it with a crunch and a “UMPH!” of pain. Page 18 Panel 1 - He sees blood on his knuckles “It’s like I…” Panel 2 - There is a flash of a punch that Corry remembers. Panel 3 - He leans forwards, hands on his head, eyes wide, shocked at what he remembers. (It looks a little cute.) Panel 4 - He gets himself up, wobbly Panel 5 - He trips on some rubbish Panel 6 - He walks a little, holding his wrist and looking back. Panel 7 - He ties his hair. Panel 8 - He grips his wrist and squeezes his eyes shut as he walks past more posters. Page 19 Panel 1 - Show Susan’s shop exterior, it looks like a Victorian style business It has bay windows, hand painted sign above the window, plants hanging on the corners, propaganda posters nearby. Panel 2 - Corry clenches the doorframe, bruised knuckles visible. Panel 3 - A grimace on his face, he’s sweating Panel 4 - Walking through the entrance, he acts like everything is fine. He greets Susan with a “morning susan!” Susan, looking down at her work, says “That's an interesting way of saying good afternoon, Corry” Corry responds sheepishly “Ah, sorry.” Panel 5 - Susan continues - “Luckily, we are still ahead thanks to your stint the other night.” Corry - ”thanks… I can't seem to keep track of my time these days (he's looking away, stressed and ashamed.) Panel 6 - Susan finally notices Corry's nose when she looks up. She exclaims “Corry! Your face! What happened?” Corry rubbing the back of his neck while gesturing calmingly with the other hand says “Ah.. A wall, it was the most ridiculous thing, walked right into it!”
