Yeah, but also what about Barreto surreptitiously hoarding that sweet Soros cash without so much as hosting a great junket conference for the field?

Well, there's no basis to undo (or even pause) California.

So yeah, I'm going to continue to maintain my capacity for surprise if/when SCOTUS does lawless things. Because the alternative seems like letting them off the hook pretty easy.

You're (obvs) not wrong about the possibility.

But it doesn't seem particularly likely that a majority of the Callais Court is likely to favor a _greater_ use of race in redistricting. And TX is dead to rights under existing law.

Put differently: hard to see a stay as law, rather than pure power.

The opinion is also both really smart and really careful. It takes Purcell and the obligation to weigh the timing of coming elections seriously.

These judges came loaded for bear.

The opinion is full of delicious snark.

And so obviously right on the law where the illegally partisan DOJ letter that triggered the whole nonsense was so obviously wrong.

I decided to convert dollars to centimeters. That allows us to visualize, for example, the distance between having no money and being at poverty level — about four city blocks.
