Updated PTA ranking - for context, these films have an interesting shelf life. For example, MAGNOLIA was my fav PTA for years, and then re-watched PHANTOM THREAD the other week and realized... that actually might be my favorite. Similarly LICORICE PIZZA has grown so much for me over time.

Honestly, my most anticipated films for the rest of the year

THE THREESOME - feel like it's going to be one of the most under-seen films of the year, and it deserves more than that. It's such a charming, sweet dramedy about maturity and growing up that isn't patronizing but genuinely empathetic, open, and messy in the way that these things are.

Feel like more people (besides critics) should be talking about A LITTLE PRAYER - it's such a tender, sophisticated, beautiful drama about a person realizing he might not be able to help his kids, despite his best intentions. David Strathairn reminds us how under-apprecitaed he is as an actor.

Maybe I'm just saying this as a Noah Hawley fan, but really dug the first two episodes of ALIEN: EARTH (especially Ep. #2). An unnerving exploration of the Alien universe with a compelling narrative that both works in conjunction with whats come before, develops it, and also tells a haunting story.

SORRY, BABY - another astonishing directorial debut that has such a trust in its audience. No simple answers, no solutions, we experience life with them… or as much as one can. An announcement of not just a major filmmaker but a great actor too in Eva Victor.

alternatively, Fred Melamed may be a good fit

Just watched the pilot for #1 HAPPY FAMILY USA and is it me or is no one talking about this? Just an unexpectedly funny animated comedy about a Muslim-American family struggling in post 9/11 America - it's surprising, playful, devastating and gripping - really just a tonal miracle of a pilot.
