I once talked to a handler of a bomb detection dog. He said his previous dog quit on him while searching a DC-9 at Hartsfield one very hot day. Kept signaling “I found the bomb” on every seat in the airplane. He adopted the dog as his pet. Working animals don’t always have their dream job.

They were going to be obsolete in a year anyway. This had been the case from the mid 30s on. They weren’t considered durable goods, like modern planes are. More like how FPV drones are seen in Ukraine.

In a pre-gunpowder era, would a city ruin really be a firepower sponge as it is now? A sword/spear army needs to be in formation to fight, and a bowman can’t crouch and fire.

I watched two of those games in person, and they were nerve racking because Emmitt always seemed on the brink of busting loose. But the Auburn DLs were elite then.
