yeah, you can curtail a lot of this stuff with just hooks

don't want it to use a language feature? hook that bops it and stops it from proceeding, blah blah etc.

yeah, I'm just compulsive about that kinda stuff given how mad people get about AI (even if the underlying project, is also AI)
December 27, 2025 at 3:43 PM
ofc I'm not sure how ethically fraught that is, I do attribute ( + everything I build this way tends to be personal use only)
December 27, 2025 at 3:17 PM
also don't have to worry about scale, so sqlite for everything, ez pz
December 27, 2025 at 3:12 PM
giant saas has to make their UX pleasant for everyone, when you build it yourself you just focus on what you want - ofc it's always been that way, but now you can do it in < 1-2 days

decentralization, of sorts, I guess
December 27, 2025 at 3:10 PM
yeah, I cloned the repo, then gave it tim's strix articles and just "hey, how did they implement this - how would you implement this? how does this gel with what we've already built? okay YOLO"
December 27, 2025 at 3:07 PM
Yeah, I tinkered with it as a whole stack and it was pretty nice - but for my personal stuff I found it just easier to clone the repo, point codex at it and go "borrow stuff that'd be useful for me"

oh, uh, I wasn't paying attention to the actual @, I just clicked through and saw it on their bio then kinda tuned out

umass amherst having a ton of marxist econ / discourse stuff is one of those things you notice once it's point out to you
December 27, 2025 at 12:50 AM
yeah, like, harp on the security all you want but their API is (mostly) pleasant to work with, and I see more people using it for bots now that Discord is being... annoying

I'd love for signal to be there, but it's.. not ~pleasant~ to use

*clicks on the originator of this discourse*

umass amherst

yeah, that tracks
December 26, 2025 at 10:13 PM
also I watched a lot less than I thought I did
December 26, 2025 at 4:31 PM
also lol I didn't realize the AUR uses anubis
December 26, 2025 at 1:27 PM
ish? I mean, it's just like any other package manager

technically nothing is stopping me from making an account and uploading a bunch of sus things to npm, for example

you just doulbe check the PKGBUILD, e.g, for the obsidian-bin

I would like to maybe do nixos sometime in the future but i'm lazy
December 26, 2025 at 1:24 PM
yeah, I use fedora for my server

arch is mostly fine nowadays, long gone are the "oh no I have to spend 3 days reading the arch wiki" days

only downside with it is if you randomly download sus things from the aur
