Putting Smith in charge of the over-burdened & under-resourced agency guarantees more harm to the communities most targeted by NYPD and even less accountability for the abuses they endure. NYC deserves more.

Shame on Mayor Adams, and shame on Pat Smith.

Smith - an outspoken adversary of oversight - has repeatedly discouraged NYers from filing complaints, ignored evidence, disregarded investigators & tossed cases. Check out @hellgatenyc.com @nickpinto.bsky.social's excellent reporting on his horrifying track record: hellgatenyc.com/ccrb-flip-ra...

We stand firmly with Win’s family in their continued fight for accountability, calling on @CCRB_NYC to schedule the discipline trial, demanding @NYPDPC #FireCianfrocco and #FireAlongi, and advocating to remove the NYPD from mental health responses.

#WinRozario’s family responds: “AG James' cowardly decision not to indict Cianfrocco & Alongi for murdering our beloved son + brother feels like we’re watching Win get murdered all over again… If any one of us had done what [they] did, we would have been fired & jailed.”

As long as the NYPD continues to target and criminalize immigrant communities and voices of dissent, it will continue to feed the deportation-industrial complex.

Shame on the NYPD. ICE is not welcome here!

What the report (+ NYPD’s repression of anti-ICE protests) makes clear is that NYPD collaborates with ICE + federal law enforcement. Sanctuary laws might minimally limit that collab, but at the end of the day, these agencies are all on the same team, protecting the interests of the state + elite.

An NYPD officer illegally tracked New Yorkers at the request of Homeland Security – paving the way for NYPD to support their detainment. The report also found the NYPD largely failed to document, report, or properly train officers to comply with sanctuary laws.
