My thumb in many pie.
I recall reading something about WW2 prisoners of war, these guys would say stuff like "We barely had enough food to live on, and I didn't dream about girls while I was there, all I would think about and dream about was a nice big steak."

I really liked first-gen early 2000s scroll wheel iPods, their only flaw was a relatively small hard drive. You put a 500 gig flash drive in there and you have a lifetime's worth of music.

I've had the same problem, for years and years, with US corporate-owned media talking about how bad the government of Venezuela is. Like, maybe Maduro and friends really are that bad, but the messenger has lied to me before.

(Venezuela is just an example, but the issue applies to other topics too.)

To be fair, a state with no broadband might be slightly safer from AI.

That's either a very good restaurant review, or a very bad one.

Books I recall giving up on:

Erich von Daniken's second book, when I realized he was full of shit.

War And Peace, good god, it's a soap opera!

The Bible, I already know how it ends.

Oh great, now I have to fantasize about having sex with a wheel of cheese.

"How did you get a yeast infection?"
"I don't wanna talk about it."

I can't remember which film it was, or maybe it was The Walking Drum, one of Louis L'Amour's last novels, but I recall an earlier Enguerrand de Coucy being one of some protagonist's foes. Enguerrand VII de Coucy, KG (1340 – 18 February 1397) of A Distant Mirror was the last of his name and line.

Expensive option: Get a Miele. At least $300 and about $5 a bag. Buy once, cry once, Mieles last a very long time.

Cheap option: Something, anything bagless from the thrift store. It will break sooner, but you probably will not pay more than $30 for it.
