Once again, I encourage you to go to Xinjiang and find these Uyghurs you're so concerned for. They are good people and would welcome you.

With China relaxing its border and visa requirements, it has never been easier to go there and see the truth for yourself.

I've been to Xinjiang and I've met uyghurs. I've been to Urumqi, shopped in their market, watched their dances. I've been to Turpan, out on the outskirts where farmers grow grapes not for wine, but for raisins. I remember how they refused to haggle because it was too close to lying - and thus haram.

I don't joke about human rights. I guess you do.

I encourage you to go to Xinjiang and talk to Uyghurs there.

So long as you're still calling China an "authoritarian state" you're never going to see the eco-friendly science-first society you dream of.

In America, the authoritarian state suppresses socialism. In China, the authoritarian state suppresses capitalism. That's the only difference between us.

Because the US gov't has spent 30 years telling us how horrible China is, but....their groceries are cheap, high quality, and plentiful (they're eating lobster and crab on a Monday at lunch, not an anniversary dinner). Their jobs provide incredible, varied, healthy lunches and an hour to eat them..
