It’s so bleeding obvious and yet, hardly anyone is prepared to admit it. You’re right about healing and I just can’t see that happening any time soon, quite the opposite.

Yeah, that void below may need to be bigger

Aah got you. Yeah best to check the moisture risk in WUFI

Fixing is really quite straightforward as the woodfibre board is T&G and stud centres max 800mm. Sometimes EWI not required, depending on target u-value

A bit like this recent example from France

We tend to have air barrier on the top/ interior side

Prefab would be good but not possible on this site with difficult access, so it will need to be stick built. There may be a way of resting the bottom sheathing boards on top of the bottom chords of I-beams, but some work from below inevitable

That's the basic plan, build the structure and then install further layers from below. Though toying with an idea of installing the bottom sheathing board from above and resting them on bottom chords of I-beams.

Usually no vapour barrier on soil, just a weed suppressing membrane. As floor fully vented below, no concern with inward moisture/ vapour ingress. We can probs just run through WUFI to be sure

This is work in progress but the intention is to stick build the floor on site, still need to discuss sequencing and size of void with the builder

You mean in walls? Those are prefab straw timber panels with integrated diagonal members for racking, no need for extra racking boards. Like the panels on the left & right here

Yup. We tend to use Panelvent or Medite vent boards rather than OSB

Vapour open board like Panelvent or Medite vent. Good spot - I’ll need to add a note!
November 22, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Yes they are one of the shortlisted options

Enjoy! Been to the tower yet? (I assume you’ve seen the film)

Herefordshire: a mix of cider, hops and chicken shit
