Congratulations to Haochen — one of the rare breeds who did both real experiments and theory. He successfully defended his PhD last Friday and is starting his independent Lewis-Sigler Scholar position at Princeton this week. We’ll miss you!

This was our first #cellbio2024 meeting, arguable the most exciting+relevant for our research in recent yrs. Thanks to all poster presenters who spent time for us. Immensely proud of our grad students presenting lab's first yeast research on invariant topological properties of mitochondria network.

What would Omnipose (our favorite U-Net-based SW) produce, if we segment the same images using the two different training data sets?

Importantly, beware of WYPIWYG (What You Put is What You Get). This is particular important for cell-size control research. For example, the Otsu segmented cells are consistently larger than the U-Net segmented cells, typically up to 10% of the cell size.
