World peace does not depend on consolidation, and in fact attempts at the latter have prevented the former. Real peace would free all humans to devote creative energies toward working of real miracles. And I think that must be the highest goal of any humanist.

I know that Punic culture survived Carthage. I know the Gauls survived Caesar. I just wonder what those civilizations would have done had they been able to grow in parallel paths.

Of course I'm oversimplifying because Rome changed and was changed by its multiethnic existence. It was built on slavery and genocide but also developed in sophisticated ways. I don't hate Rome, not by a long shot. I like any American live in its shadow
I just think about counterfactuals a lot.
