When someone says Auckland's housing isn't so unaffordable by reading out other cities that are worse, and it's basically this list. These are the MOST unaffordable housing markets in the world. There are only 11 housing markets worse than Auckland, on this measure (which has it's issues). 😠

PS this electorate office is not “inside” a shopping mall. It’s in a portion of the site that is a strip mall with shop entrances coming out directly onto an outside carpark. So the same as the electorate office protest I attended earlier this year in AKL and received no trespass order for.

Last local govt elections the 6th seat on the Puketāpapa local board was almost a 3 way tie. In the end there were 8 votes in it iirc.

In 2024 Auckland Council voted 11 to 10 NOT to have booth voting this time (which increases turnout). Cr Fletcher’s vote was the difference.

Every vote counts.

Use “I” statements please Winston. The tens of thousands of NZers who marched, the thousands and thousands more who see this genocide for what it is and who know recognising Palestine is an important symbol of solidarity, your decision does not represent us.

Finished off a big day down the democracy mine with a little extra democracy for dessert.

Auckland Council votes to withdraw PC78 and move forward with PC120.

Vote was 18 in favour, 5 against. (Against: Fletcher, Lee, K Turner, Walket, Watson).

This map shows closer up how the downzoning in PC120 roughly lines up with flood plain (blue blob). E36 rules will apply immediately on blue blob properties. I was also asking about how we create good rules for the broader catchment around the flood plains, that's tricky because...
September 24, 2025 at 1:34 AM
You can see this well in Lynfield - PC78 had almost all of the area mid orange (MHU and thus MDRS) and PC120 creates a bunch of cream (SHZ) and yellow (MHS) around the flood plains. These don't apply until adoption, but E36 applies from notification in the blue blobs. (Another webinar slide w00t!)

E36 is in Chapter E of the PC120 rules. Here's a screenshot of the principles (from my webinar) along with a graphic that shows the spectrum of RMA activity classes - E36 makes development in flood zones more likely to shift along the arrow towards more restrictive for resource consents.

Further to the 2 million figure - here's a diagram that hopefully helps people understand why it is so high - this is from a presentation that councillors are receiving now, and have been shown this diagram in the past.

The rumours are true - @cityvision.bsky.social is endorsing Tara Iti, the Fairy Tern, for @forestandbird.bsky.social’s Bird of the Year!

Vote Fairy Tern AND Fair(e)y Turn(er)!

Thanks to the very talented @emmamcinnes.bsky.social for this great graphic 😍💚❤️

My recovery is so sloooow but another step forward today (For those just joining us, my leg was broken in a crash in late June, car driver cut a corner while I was biking to work, and I later developed blood clots & a pulmonary embolism from it). I’m on the 25L into the city to attend a committee…

Guess where I am…

Thought I might never be able to get up to the Seat of Love again, after breaking my leg, but with a patient driver and some encouraging junior associates here I am!

It’s not ok to point your fingers at someone speaking at a public meeting and pretend to shoot them, and I don’t understand why media aren’t talking about this when they literally have photos.

Some wholesome Sunday content for you - while I’ve been housebound and spending a lot of time on the couch I’ve been painting rocks for hiding in parks and today I got a chance to release some into the world for others to find & rehide.

I think part of the difficulty with the helipad discussion in AKL, as per this article in @thespinoff.bsky.social thespinoff.co.nz/society/16-0..., is the lack of general understanding of how the RMA activity classes work. To that end I've put together this to help. 1/

Some years back when we had crappy year (2020) after crappy year (2019) I decided I wasn't going to look forward to the next year I was going to look forward to 2026 - on the basis that it was when CRL and Central Interceptor would be finished. Feeling vindicated right now w this slide:
