I just finished this up in a SmArtSchool mentorship class with Sam Weber. 😊 The assignment was to create an illustration with an original character, and I went with my current D&D character 😅

I've been working in sketchbooks more as part of a class assignment; here are some of my recent sketches 👉👈 I've been trying to draw what comes to me in the moment, and not worry too much about the output or making everything perfect, but also put time into each to make it feel 'done' as a sketch.

I didn't realize how much of a change there was until I looked at these side by side 😳 I took a bunch of online mentorship courses through www.smarterartschool.com and that really made a difference. (also my method of coping with pandemic stress was to just work on art all day every day 😭)

My one Edge of Eternities M:tG card was finally spoiled 😁 Here is the Territorial Bruntar, crushin' some rocks.

A bulky multi-limbed alien creature slams its fist into the ground hard enough to break apart stone. The creature has stony grey skin with red-orange stony accents shaped like horns or spikes. The Territorial Bruntar card: a 6/6 red beast with landfall and reach. (I don't know how to play but I'm assuming those are the important bits of info for the card).

I meant to post these earlier, but I did character designs for two different Critical Role one shots that were released earlier this year! The first was a one shot based on Avowed, the second was based on Elder Scrolls Online. Both were a ton of fun to work on, albeit a little intimidating 😅

Hi #portfolioday! I'm Julie Dillon, and I'm a freelance artist working mostly on MtG cards and book covers. Here are a few personal paintings I've done in the past year. :)
A large ocean wave is about to overtake a bedraggled man in a weathered rowboat. He looks distressed about this, knowing he's not going to be able to get clear of the wave in time. A rusalka possessively embraces a man she's pulled under water in a pond; he doesn't appear to be struggling against her very much. We peer through ornate curtains at a king kneeling before a man in armor who stands before him. The king gazes up at the knight and is in the process of shrugging out of his ornate robes, which trail behind him. The knight cradles the king's face in one hand, and the king has a hand on the knight's armored leg. A medusa in gold jewelry with gold rattlesnakes for hair, clutching the stone head of a king and breaking it to pieces while making intense eye contact with the viewer.
