i think this is the big point here, having some people who don’t have the same drive to win as other teammates is never going to work and just creates a frustrating environment for everyone involved. and screening for goals is definitely an overlooked part of making teams

this is true. personally i only play comp bc i want to win as that is where my enjoyment comes from. the connections and friendships are a nice bonus ofc but i would not play the game if it didn’t have the competitive side, i guess i’m just struggling to see through the eyes of a “casual comp player

this thread is very rambly and lacks cohesion but just some random thoughts i had about the different reasons why people play comp 🧵 end

and the other half wants purely to win, then obviously this will cause issues. i don’t think one side of this is either right or wrong, and ofc there is more nuance to each persons wishes, but i feel like this is an aspect of our community that is very overlooked and not talked about.

or certain players being banned. obviously people who are genuinely problematic should not have a place in our scene but there’s definitely a line and everyone seems to draw it in a different place. another thing is how this can affect teams. if half of your team wants to play comp for fun

the friendships and community are just an added bonus, and i’m wondering how this divides our scene. a lot of times people tend to have very differing opinions on how certain things should play out and how much certain things matter, stuff like choosing who to play with if that person may be “toxic”
