It bothers me that so many people think it’s ‘prostrate’.

When I was forecasting future drug sales the rule was: assume US prices will increase by 5% year on year until the end of patent life, but in the rest of the world, assume they will decrease by 5% year on year.

I think that is now untenable.

Yes I can look that up for myself.

When I worked in pharma, it was known that the high prices charged in the US basically subsidise the prices paid by the rest of the world. American drug prices were the only way most pharmaceutical companies earned back the money they invested in new drugs.

Show me your data!

Comparatively more UK students might go to EU universities if we were still in the bloody EU.
December 2, 2025 at 4:17 PM
This is my point exactly.

Which would be fine, wouldn't it? Seeing that there will be more of them than there are now. And the same applies to UK students heading into Europe.
December 2, 2025 at 3:55 PM
Sorry - have we heard anything at all about the fees the EU Erasmus students would be paying to study at British universities? If so could you please point me towards that data.
December 2, 2025 at 3:52 PM
I expect the EU is so keen on getting us signed up to Erasmus and FOM for young people because these are innocuous stand-alone projects. They'll watch how we handle them. If we make a flouncing, pouting drama out of this, then what hope have we of negotiating anything more contentious? It's a test.
December 2, 2025 at 3:35 PM
If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say that for each part of the EU system the UK wants to participate in, it will be expected to pay part of the fee that it would pay if it were a full member. It's like paying to visit each National Trust property because you haven't taken out an annual membership.

What bill? Who pays for the Erasmus students to come over?

And what about soft power? Thousands of young Europeans who will think kindly of the UK, who polish up English skills, who are exposed to our history and culture and will treasure those memories? I suppose that's worth nothing either.

Because they know it doesn't work?
December 2, 2025 at 12:39 PM
Truly a poem for our times. I'd put in a few more line breaks but otherwise it's perfect as it is.
December 2, 2025 at 12:35 PM
Maybe that's because nobody is framing it as opportunities for British students? Isn't that what is important here?
December 2, 2025 at 12:26 PM
Well what do you think it's for?
December 2, 2025 at 11:25 AM
To keep the NHS running? To nationalise the railways? To remove the 2 child cap? To create an actual War Chest?

He’s too ill to process the information.

They say it’s because there’s no capacity for wastewater provision. In which case could they not dig a septic tank?
December 1, 2025 at 12:38 PM
Are you going with ‘rich on average’?because it’s a pretty skewed distribution where a few people have a large proportion of the wealth.

They could have been the ‘Yougottafightfortherightto Party’.
