I used to teach university journalism students about how it was wrong to do this fifteen years ago. Part of me thinks this kind of 'journalism' is standards slipping, part of me thinks it's a concerted effort to shore up these kinds of characters.

Having only got really into the Suchet Poirots in recent years, when I watched Edge again recently, I did shout "HASTINGS!" when he first appeared! I had the cast in my first draft too but it was getting a bit absolutely-everything-I-love-about-this-series. Captain Darling and Zoe Wanamaker too!
