Instead, it will probably tend to gap-fill because most text reads in a direct, plausible, flowing way, so that's what the LLM treats English text as looking like - and that's the kind of area where I'd really want a human expert's opinion to avoid false certainties.

I think the other concern I have is that something we *know* LLMs are good at is writing English text that makes sense to a modern reader. So we should be wary of outputs that look *too* good esp. with medieval languages - an LLM is unlikely to stop and go "well we don't know what this word means".

Which is not a bad showing, but not enough this time.

Thanks of course to everyone who was supportive along the way!

Speaking as a Caucasiologist (though not one who knows Armenian well enough to do said checking), this article kind of lost me when it said it relied on AI for the cross-checking. If you're testing how well something works, you absolutely need a human expert to do the cross-checking for sense.

The clock can stop sweating now

The clock rests, for it is a Tuesday

And until the next Lib Dem leaflet is published

Time, inglorious sweat-bound time

Blissfully ceases

I'm fairly sure I don't have enough job security to class as senior! But thank you, the compliment is of course appreciated :)

One of the nastier bits of online abuse I got once was someone telling me to, quote, "go out and lie in the road and wait for a bus"

Given I was in rural Norfolk at the time, though... I guess I'd have eventually died of starvation well before one went by?

Yeah, I'm at the point where if I want somewhere to actually hang out online even BSky is somewhat of a bigger information firehose than I enjoy. Persuading people to join smaller and cosier spaces is tricky, though, speaking as someone who's run a little webforum for years.

I just kind of pop on here for politics then scurry off back to weirder little niches of the internet that feel less like I'm going to get yelled at about the Topic Of The Day
