And the predecessor to the 3.5", the 5.25" were indeed floppy

They want me to pay an additional 11% into FERS, just to make the numbers work without improving benefits, all the while I work 58 hrs a week as ATC. Fuck 'em.

I'll likely be working a record number of planes across ID, MT, WY, and UT with less staffing than was necessary 10 years ago.

You are correct, I just want to make sure the record is correct. I am a controller, they didn't fire 400 of us. I just don't like when important details are missing.
May 13, 2025 at 5:48 AM
Most of the people fired were technical operations people, the folks that work on the equipment. No controllers have been fired. The staffing issues are from when they moved the controllers from New York to Philly to work the airspace.

It's actually in the CFRs. 5 U.S. Code § 8335 - Mandatory separation www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/...

Whaattt!? Contractors making pie in the sky promises and people who understand nothing making the final decisions?. I'm shocked.... But not really. It's my understanding that Leidos, which continues to develop ERAM, charges by line of code to make modifications.

This is actually an example of the anti-waste system working. A project wasn't going well so they ended the contract instead of constantly spending more and more money...

That's the biggest issue, where 1 or 2 people leave and it's back to square one. I empathize with all the low level facilities where that is the case.

They've already started this. Flight Service StationS used to be run by the FAA, they privatized it years ago. Here's the latest contract. www.leidos.com/insights/lei...
Leidos awarded FAA Future Flight Services Program contract
Under the FFSP contract, Leidos will help the FAA achieve its vision to transform and modernize the delivery of flight briefing services.

We appreciate the thanks. Many of us are still giving it our best.

That's me too, I moved to a different area that was short staffed and took a schedule of 4, 10 hour regular shifts and includes 2, 8-hour overtimes fairly frequently so far.

I am ATC, this is nonsense. They've been working on projects for years to modernize everything. Our communications system was designed and installed in the early 90s. Why do we still use it? Because these conservative dipshits never wanted to pay for it.
February 17, 2025 at 9:45 PM
We know some of our shit is old. Our Voice Switching Control System (VSCS) was originally designed and installed in the early 90's and still uses old phone lines. It has never been replaced because there was never any money to do so.

Quite the self-own to create a holiday that will then cause the government to pay some employees an extra 8 hours to work it.
February 17, 2025 at 6:36 PM
Many of us controllers will be professionals and still show up to work. They have about 2 weeks before we see a reduced paycheck and then people will start getting "sick."

I fall into one of those categories; no work = furlough status = no back pay unless Congress says so and I don't trust President Elon would not withhold back pay. Also, collective work action is illegal, see PATCO strike.

As an essential employee that lived through not getting paid in 2019, this is the dumbest shit ever.
