Our mother-in-law’s goose, Ryan (whose name made more sense when she was a younger goose), is coming to join our flock today.

An old gray ewe lies on the ground eating hay. A great goose stands on the other side of the bits of hay munching on it. There are some sheep and fencing in the background, and the grass around them is light-brown close to hay.

I mean honestly reading @erikloomis.bsky.social obit of Dick Cheney and then hugging a sheep is a pretty good way to start the day.

Tom Shippey’s “The Road to Middle Earth” reminds me of the Finnish Kalevela poem cycle, which in high school I argued was an influence on Tom Bombadil because of magic through singing, and has this on other possible sources.

Artemis says hi. She doesn’t always come up for pets, but when she does, it’s pretty great.

Working on setting up the historical shelves. Still unsure of the organization,- Dan not sure how much I want to follow chronology vs trends.

Ok, I’m sure some more books will pop up and need to be slipped in, but SFF is shelved, other than all the Tolkien stuff I need to sort out. Recognize anything?
Two bookshelves fully stacked. A few are facing out including Vajra's Saint of Bright Doors and Ken Liu's Grace of Kings. Generally alphabetical by author, but Robert Jordan and Steven Erikson's series are on bottom shelves on one side, and anthologies of various sorts are the bottom of the other.

Having narrated The Lord of the Rings to my youngest (5 1/2) once, and working through it a second time, we’ve now decided to watch the movies. Lovely seeing these characters through her eyes.

Seems appropriate that I got Eric Klinenberg’s “Palaces for the People” via ILL from my small-town library.
