Highly likely. Military pay sucks for the lower ranks, and you get what you get and can afford at one of the dozen or so tattoo shops just outside of the main gate. Even my tats require an explanation, and I have been out long enough to voted for Bush Jr.

But does he though (not that I have seen)? I had platoon sergeants with literal “SS” lightning bolts on their hands. The culture in the Marine Corps infantry is not for the faint of heart. 20 years ago, did I agree, no. Would I follow them into a firefight, fuck yes.

As a Marine Corps infantryman veteran as well, this is pretty on par for us. It took me several years after leaving the Marines to realize civilians don’t talk like that. Lessons learned.
