United Way has done work on this. Maybe he's a little high for a national average, but much closer to his number than $31K. (And, the United Way way understates the cost of health care. For me, it's $1,900/month for the bronze, high deductible plan.)

Finally rode my bike on the Richmond Bridge. Getting to the bridge from San Rafael requires crossing Sir Francis Drake with no light or even a crosswalk. There is no signage anywhere on how to reach the bridge, and apparently, you must share the road with cars.

As the sun set on Oct. 8, a gray pickup truck drove south across the Golden Gate Bridge from Marin to San Francisco — then slammed into barriers in front of the bridge’s empty tollbooths. One of its wheels fell off and the truck careened across multiple lanes before it crashed into a black Mercedes SUV, though there were no injuries. A crash like this at San Francisco’s most recognizable landmark might once have stood out. But this was just one of four times that a car would hit the booths that week. Through October of this year, 45 drivers have already crashed at the southbound tollbooths, the highest number of collisions since at least 2018, a time when millions more drivers traveled across the iconic thoroughfare. In the last four months, crashes have become a nearly weekly phenomenon, with at least 29 drivers blocking the roadway from anywhere from one minute to over two hours — Suggesting the removal of the booths could inflame controversy in the communities fond of the tollbooths. While they aren’t considered historic, the booths and the neon clock above them have been a fixture for decades. Bridge authorities would need to conduct an environmental study before coming to a decision on the tollbooths. Bridge district officials would also solicit community feedback on the tollbooths, something they plan to do after the new toll processing infrastructure is complete. (Regardless, bridge officials have pledged to keep the clock, which dates to 1949, and find somewhere else to put it.)

Public comment: Your mother wasn't capable of love, it's not your fault, but it is your fault if you do't get help and continue the cycle of abuse. Get help. See a good therapist of whatever works, but get the hell out of public office.

Marin may have a NIMBY rep, but most folks support more housing. Our election results show it. Despite fear mongering, efforts to recall councilmembers for following state law failed. Ordinances to rezone for more housing passed.
Marin IJ: Sausalito passes rezoning to satisfy state housing mandate. Sausalito residents have approved two measures to rezone 13 parcels to satisfy the state’s housing mandate. Measure J, which would rezone a dozen parcels in the central commercial district and the Marinship area for apartment buildings, was leading by 1,734 to 582 votes, or about 75% to 25%, with all precincts reporting Tuesday night. The question was not controversial, according to city officials, as the sites are mostly underused office buildings. Measure K, which would rezone 2 acres of city land at MLK Park’s southwestern edge for a 50-apartment complex for low-income seniors, was leading by 1,308 to 1,034 votes, or about 56% to 44%. The measure generated neighborhood opposition. The no vote to recall Fairfax Mayor Lisel Blash and Vice Mayor Stephanie Hellman grew a little larger. As of Friday, 55.54% of the vote opposed recalling Blash, an increase of about a percentage point, and 54.98% opposed recalling Hellman, also an increase of about a point.

Pretty hard for Connolly to argue he supports housing when he opposes measures to make it easier to build. Every approved housing project in Marin is making use of various state laws. SB 70 doesn't even apply to Marin, and he still opposes it. www.marinij.com/2025/10/27/c...
He said he shares his constituents’ concerns about Senate Bill 79, which requires zoning that allows apartment buildings up to nine stories to be built within a half-mile of major transit stops. “There is a group of us who are continuing to push for common sense in this area,” he said. “Right now, things are still trending in the opposite direction, where you have SB 79 passed overwhelmingly despite all the problems with it.” Connolly said that despite efforts statewide, housing is still not being built.

The revisions expand the list of activities that constitute using a vehicle “as a place of human habitation.” That list is in response to a 2014 federal court decision that overturned Los Angeles’ habitation ban, Rudin said. The city’s new list includes “more than one of the following activities,” a staff report said. “Possessing inside or on a vehicle items that are not associated with ordinary vehicle use, such as a sleeping bag, bedroll, blanket, sheet, pillow, kitchen utensils, cookware, or cooking equipment, or obscuring some or all of the vehicles windows.”

I wonder if the teachers in Marin County are as dumb as ... thinks. Imagine getting a job in Tiburon as a teacher then saying I can't afford to live here please build me a cheap house. Not a small home but a big home but not too expensive. I worked in Manhattan for 4 years because I had to and liven in New Jersey where I could afford an apartment. Nobody built me a cheaper home. But to say you can't afford a home in Marin is being a cry baby. Don't Solano, Napa and Alameda counties have schools. Here's what they should do. Find a home they can afford then look for the job. Same goes for cops and firemen. I don't want somebody living next to me that can't afford to live here. I earned my way to Marin and so should everybody else.

I have spent most of my life within 100 miles of this place and had no idea it existed. Shortly after Burtynsky took this picture in 1999, a lightening strike ignited a fire that burned 30 days. There were over 6,000,000 tires then.

Yes. And so many Marinites believe that the traffic in Marin is due to "out of control" development. Many refuse to believe that we have the lowest rate of development in California.

So, so much parking. Here's one of Sausalito's lots - middle of downtown - on a beautiful, weekend day - when Sausalito is at peak visitors. (Yet, any conversion of parking to other uses is treated as a disaster.)

I'm hearing that SB 79 is going to destroy Marin's neighborhoods by forcing large apartment towers in the middle of our single family neighborhoods. So I mad a map showing where SB79 might allow more density. Hint: it's not in our neighborhoods. It's less than 1% of Marin's land.

Great article on Fairfax's refusal to follow state housing law. Newsom made some strong statements about removing barriers to building housing in his budget. Will he follow through and enforce these laws? davisvanguard.org/2025/07/cali...
The battle in Fairfax, then, is about far more than one apartment complex. It’s about whether California’s housing laws mean anything at all. If a town like Fairfax, after voluntarily submitting and receiving state certification for a housing plan, can simply reverse course when the time comes to follow through, then the entire system collapses. It sends a message to every other city in California: play nice on paper, but block projects in practice.

This 100% affordable housing project in Marin is being attacked for being "ugly". It's hard to understand how this will degrade the neighborhood aesthetics.

My periodic posting of the Sausalito machine shop. There was a proposal to develop the site. It was put on the national historic register instead. Now there is no economically viable way to use it. So it rots on some of the most valuable real estate in the country.

Marin County housing is way out of line with resident's income. There is no housing affordable to people who make $65K or less. Low income residents who lose their housing must leave Marin.

These trustees need to go back to school. Public backlash and a statement from the Marin Schools Superintendent is not "lobbying". The program they cut had great results. It was already the budget. They made a bad decision. www.marinij.com/2025/06/12/m...
“Mr. Carroll has little information regarding these services and is simply repeating talking points from Mr. Austin and Ms. Tate-Austin and their agents who have been heavily lobbying the board and are dissatisfied with the board’s June 3 decision,” Roenisch said in an email. “Lobbying of a public entity on behalf of specific people seeking consultant contracts is highly questionable and can be reason in and of itself to disqualify a consultant,” Roenisch added. “Quite frankly, I am surprised by Mr. Carroll’s lobbying efforts.”

More language to remove the only site with a proposal, and what was the best site for development on the originally submitted housing element. Contrary to this language, this is a prohibition of the conversion of underused office to residential.
extent to which sites were not anticipated to receive voter support, such as sites that would result in significant loss of community amenities that serve all segments of the population, historic sites, and sites that would impact or be impacted by the working waterfront, in selecting sites as Opportunity Sites. In particular, the community support that is required to modify Ordinance No. 1022 is anticipated to be stronger only if housing in the Marinship is located in the northwest portion of the Marinship and away from the working waterfront and if housing in or near the certified Sausalito Historic District does not adversely impact the district, historic sites, and contributing resources.
