Next, our 2nd preprint of the week (!), this one driven by @madelouhart.bsky.social

Previously: Mitochondrial inhibition impairs cell proliferation by constraining aspartate (ASP) availability.

Here: we investigate the kinetics of ASP depletion/ proliferation impairments and...surprises ensue!
Succinate Dehydrogenase loss causes cascading metabolic effects that impair pyrimidine biosynthesis https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.02.18.638948v1

Excited to share a recent preprint by Oliver Newsom, where we evaluate the functional contributions of serum for cancer cell proliferation. Inside:

A broadly applicable serum-free media,
Quantitative lipid uptake characterization,
Evidence lipid scavenging > synthesis for cancer cell proliferation.
Defined media reveals the essential role of lipid scavenging to support cancer cell proliferation https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.02.12.637975v1

🧪 Ready, set, degrade!

So proud to share our work in the @jclinical-invest.bsky.social, establishing a versatile approach for creating transgenic dTAG mice to degrade oncoproteins. We showcase that KRAS G12V degradation triggers antitumor immunity in lung cancer.

It's estimated that around 13% of cancers overall are caused by infections.

This is an area where prevention can be very powerful: by tackling the infections that cause them, we can stop these cancers before they start. 🧵

Many people talk about the "Golden Age of Antibiotics", but I hadn't seen it visualized properly.

Just how many types of antibiotics were discovered during that time?

So, I visualized it myself!

Very glad to see this properly out and open access from my time with @baym.lol We've learnt so much about antibiotic resistance evolution already, and yet so many outstanding and fascinating questions remain, at all levels of selection.

More #NatureReviewsCancer updates 🚨

We recently launched a collection on the #microbiome in cancer. While its role is still debated, the collection presents a selection of articles from #SpringerNature journals to highlight our current understandings.🧫🦠

The microbiome in cancer
The gut microbiome plays a crucial role in cancer development and progression, by influencing the host immune system and metabolism.
