I've been sitting on this poem since April. Once in a blue moon, one will come together in a way that I'm genuinely satisfied with.
Text for a poem that reads: the sin of empathy you feel it, don't you? the churning below of roots roiling displacing the dirt, a muffled groaning breaks ground to breathe free grazing your cracked, dry soles these tendrils teeming with the water of life "It's just the rain," you whisper daring to steal a glimpse on high but the storm will make you see in that dreadful flash you freeze at a sea of faces seared to your vision cheeks carved in rivulets from a tempest of tears, hot to your skin "it's just the thunder," you mouth clasping slick hands to your ears to keep your heart from swelling from their outpouring of pain dying screams and hopeless sobs vibrate the air all about you and shake you to the core The poem continues with this final stretch: but I see your toes grip the fertile soil muscle and bone longing to stretch to the heavens to soak up their pain to grow, give relief, close the breach but you grit your teeth and stand rigid resolute to harden your heart of flesh a firm foundation that sinks in sand you rip up the vines mistaking them for weeds but what's really choking you? you calcify in the rain mistaking it for acid but what's really eating away at you? you shut out the heavenly outcries mistaking them for incantations but what's really got you spellbound? you're told to be a statue in the shape of a whitewashed tomb but even still, he calls to you wishing you'd branch out and blossom, so he can say, "lazarus, come out of this grave! go now, and tend to the beloved."

Finding a lost sunken city is like stumbling upon a new LEGO set for this dragon! Gotta rebuild these places for whenever humans come around and explore in their silly swimming suits. He's sure they won't mind if some shiny trinkets wind up in his sea cave collection ...

I have all sorts of motivating opportunities to try cooking and baking new things for local friends, and tonight I made tiramisu for the first time! It turned out GREAT. 😤
