Mainly northern England. Walking about. Innit.
Took a break from Christmas with some grinding ambient noise and some levitating floor tiles:

I was on the beach a couple of weeks back wondering similar about how fossils like these would have been perceived. They look almost like lettering:

New, first stage batch fresh out of the tumbler and still wet. Quite a few bits of chalcedony in there so I’ve split them into what can progress to stage two and reloaded the tumbler for stage one again. Maybe sometime in 2026 I’ll end up with some polished rocks!

Quite a few interesting fossils today. Currently wondering whether this is a trilobite:

Back out. Chilly. And the light rain forecast ended up in a downpour:

The first batch has been through a week of 80 grit and a few days of 220. Some of the rocks are reducing to nothing, whilst others are stubbornly refusing to give up their cracks and pits. Separated rocks that can progress to the next stage, and loaded the barrel for stage one again.

A large, split chunk of #galena for the #OreCup found reasonably local in the mining spoil which was closed after “some thousands (were spent) in search of lead ore and never found a pound weight”. I always find this funny as the hill is covered galena and wonder what they were doing.

Found some strange rocks and a hammer and picked up a few bits - mainly quartz, azurite and malachite…

Onto the slightly mysterious. There’s a lot of quartz in the same area often in very good condition. First pics are of worn looking, green crystals - wondering anglesite but they seem harder than Moh’s 2.5-3. Last pic is a mineral on galena - chrysocolla? From a different area.
