Speaking of failings of blue state governance: just helped a struggling mom get her stroller down subway stairs, she was dangerously close to losing control. Elevator was out. Upon leaving the station, ran into protest outside of @mta.info's HQ. Their chant: "what do we want? elevator maintenance!"

Counterintuitively, it is easier! EVs will soon cost less than gas cars, and every driver needs to replace their vehicle eventually. US vegetarian / vegan rates have been low and stable for decades

Load duration curves are helpful to grok the peaky peak. Imagine the load curve of NYS for a year. Rank the hours from highest power consumption to lowest. The entire grid has to be built to handle the purple, regardless of how flat the rest-of-year is. The q is: how tall would the purple bit get?

Even the EU system started off with low prices—on purpose—and only grew as the politics allowed. In democracies, carbon pricing is implemented by elected officials, and is as shaped by the "laws" of polisci as those of economics.

The drillers who drill boreholes (the tubes going down into the earth and getting the heat) are different laborers than the pipefitters who connect them (the big tube going down the middle of the street). The pipefitters union is the one that represents a lot of existing gas workers

In 1992, Democrats and Republicans shared power in 31 states. Today, only 12.

What happened? Republican gains—entirely. The GOP went from controlling 3 statehouses to 23. The DNC's share actually went down slightly.
