🍂 🏛️ 👿 🧪 SAFE Act Bans Federal Funding for Scientists with Ties to Chinese Researchers or Trainees

Billed has been passed by US House of Representatives
Yikes. Banning people for activities such as co-authorship and advising a graduate student is completely unreasonable in a modern research environment. And a retroactive 5 year ban is wildly unfair.

A great read from Will, here! I’ve had the app on my phone for a week now (my bean is named “Weenie”), but only used it twice. If you are a phone game addict like me, the recent trend of apps progressively rarifying virtual rewards may have desensitized you to the pain of not getting your socks 😢
A focus app created by @hankgreen.bsky.social, was briefly the #1 free app on the Play Store! But will it actually help users with their attention?

I try the app myself, and look to a recent study that examined whether blockers improve sustained attention and mental health. My takes here:
Do blocker apps help people reclaim their attention?

New preprint! 🧠

Our mind wanders at rest. By periodically probing ongoing thoughts during resting-state fMRI, we show these thoughts are reflected in brain network dynamics and contribute to pervasive links between functional brain architecture and everyday behavior (1/10).
