Thoroughly put in my place

Sorry I upset you by making an innocuous comment on the internet about the Beatles, I hope you're ok and that it didn't ruin your day

I'm not having a go at the Beatles. I wish them well.

Good idea

I was 15, but at that time I wasn't looking at 17-year-olds thinking "Wow, they're just 17" because they were older than me. I thought "Wow, they're 17." I would've felt inherently excluded by the lyric "She was just 17," as I would've assumed it was being addressed to an 18+ audience.

Important to note that I don't care, or judge Paul McCartney for this lyric in the slightest - 50s/60s music is full of this kind of thing, and it fits in with its contemporaries. But I will dispute with anybody trying to use logic to make this lyric not creepy, because it is kind of creepy.

Why would he say "Just 17" if he was writing for teenagers? 83.33% of teenagers are 17 or younger. The lyric implies a listenership that A. Is over 17 and B. Is in unanimous agreement that being "Just 17" is inherently desirable.

It's a good bit!

I don't think this stops the line from being slightly dodgy. If he'd written a lyric that went "I fancy someone 3 years younger than me" that would be completely different. But that's not what "She was just 17, you know what I mean" implies.

I feel a bit bad, I'm sure there are lots of good podcasts out there

These doppelgangers are increasingly just bearded men but I'm very flattered! This bearded man looks very nice.
