I'm not saying I agree with it, especially given the current administration.

However... part about "obeying the orders of the President" has been in the Oath of Enlistment for a long time. (I was Army 1996-2016). The Oath for Commissioned Officers doesn't contain that line.

unfortunately.... there is a difference between the Oath of Enlistment (for enlisted military members) and the Oath of Military Officers.

The Oath of Enlistment does include the line "will obey the orders of the President of the United States"... The one for Officers doesn't have that

We had to put my elderly cat down a few years ago (he was 18 and was going through a lot of quality of life issues) and are unfortunately looking at having to do it with our dog (larger breed; she's 13)...

he's reading off the Oath of Enlistment... That's literally how it is read when you are the one presenting it...
