The genius of Jesus Christ Superstar, aside from the great music, locates in how it is not actually about Jesus at all. It is about myth, celebrity, and superstardom. The cruelty of politics and the impossibility of leading a true revolution. Our yearning to make it all make sense.

Trump's genius, if we can call it that, locates in how he preempts criticism through clowning. Chaplin famously mocked Hitler for stealing his mustache in "The Great Dictator." Trump's orange makeup and red tie is self aware. He is already a clown. The clown cannot be clowned if openly a clown.
