I have tons of women journalist friends who include their Signal usernames in their bios! I'm afraid there's no perfect way to let sources contact you without also letting scammers/stalkers/jerks contact you; at least with Signal you don't have to give out your phone number

Ugh, I sympathize! One potential compromise would be to post your Signal username in your bio instead of suggesting a DM. But I know that's asking someone to do a little work if they don't already have an account. Hard to calculate the tradeoffs!

I'm afraid those are scammers! I find the best way to avoid them is to change your DM settings to allow new messages only from users you follow—though I suspect you want to keep your DMs open for journalistic purposes.
