🗃️ Socialist of the Day: Shenise Turner-Sloss is an Ohio politician and the mayor-elect of Dayton, Ohio after winning the non-partisan 2025 election against incumbent Jeff Mims. She became the Dayton City Commissioner in 2021. Turner-Sloss is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Romero was born to Puerto Rican parents both lifelong, unionized state workers. She is was employed at the Albany County Public Defender’s Office as a trial attorney and local court advocate.

🗃️ Socialist of the Day: Gabriella Romero is a New York politician who currently serves in the State Assembly. She previously served on the Albany’s Common Council. Romero is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and won her seat in 2024. She won election to the Albany council in 2021.

Prior to their election, Conley-Wilson was a community organizer and food justice gardener. In their spare time they run Common Greens Garden, a community garden in North Central Troy. Currently, they serve as New York Regional Program Coordinator for the American Farmland Trust.

She is the eldest daughter from a Muslim immigrant family. Prior to her election win, Chughtai worked as a political organizer for Service Employees International Union, managed the campaign for Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, and helped found the Muslim Caucus of the Young Democrats of America.

While he traveled, he pushed for issues like Tuition-Free Education, Driver’s Licenses for All, and police accountability. As President, he embodied the Southside spirit of causing some good trouble, often going against established powers to fight for communities that have been shut out of power.

Chavez attended the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. At St. Scholastica, he was elected Student Body President and spearheaded programs designed to support BIPOC, low-income, and first-generation students. He fought for free meal programs, cultural diversity programs, and social justice causes.

🗃️ Socialist of the Day: Larry Little was a North Carolina politician and a former Winston-Salem Board of Alderman elected in 1974. Little was inspired by Gerry Cohen’s victory in 1973 and reached out for advice in running a local campaign.

🗃️ Socialist of the Day: Gerry Cohen was a North Carolina politician and a former Chapel Hill City Council member. Cohen was the first socialist elected in NC history and served on the Council from 1973-79. Afterwards he worked for 30 years as a legislative counsel for the state legislature.

🗃️ Socialist of the Day: Danny Nowell is a North Carolina politician and a Carrboro Town Council member. He is a member of the DSA and won election to the council in 2021 (re-elected in 2025). Nowell is the first DSA endorsed candidate to win in NC and the first Socialist elected in fifty years.

🗃️ Socialist of the Day: Willie Burnley Jr. is a MA politician and a City Councilor for the Sommerville City Council. He is a member of the DSA and won election to the council in 2021. He is a former union steward for the Teamsters Local 122 and an alum of both Sen. Markey and Warren campaigns.

In 1993, Goldberg was elected to the 13th District seat on the Los Angeles City Council, becoming the first out lesbian woman to hold office on the City Council. She was re-elected without opposition in 1997. In 2000, Goldberg was elected to her first of three terms in the CA Assembly.

She went on to get a MA in education from the University of Chicago. In 1983, Goldberg was elected to the LAUSD Board of Education, where she served for two terms. In 2019, Goldberg was re-elected to the LAUSD's Board of Education for the 5th District and served until her retirement in 2024.

🗃️ Socialist of the Day: Jackie Goldberg is a California politician and teacher. She is also a member of the DSA. Goldberg was born in the Los Angeles area on November 18, 1944. Goldberg attended the UC-Berkeley, where she was a member of SLATE and a major contributor to the Free Speech Movement.
