I got it.

Another MilSF it reminds me of is The Mote in God's Eye, a book (among other things) about the undesirability of sequestering political and technical questions, even if it were (in)humanly possible to do so.

I haven't read much Honor Harrington, but I get the idea that at any moment anyone could say "I think we should go back to the gold standard," be met with general agreement, and be compeltely in character.

Yes, anyone. Even the cat.

Biting my tongue. I don't need to say anything. I don't need to defend Korra's strengths or highlight Airbender's weaknesses. It's fine.

Do I even disagree that much? There's loads I dislike in Korra. So I don't need to say anything at all.

Look at how bad this card looks.

Gundam fans: After War Gundam X is so depressing, I can't watch it.

After War Gundam X: Saving the dolphins taught me how to love life again.

I think we've got some common ground. I also hate it when unconstitutional, aggressive feds backed by a stacked court kill people's dogs.

If the borders were opened for them and they were given citizenship, in what sense were they illegal aliens?
November 21, 2025 at 4:50 PM
I wonder what happened to them when the reds won the war.

How did you win, anyway, if you were so swamped?
November 21, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Buddy you don't get to complain about the good idea fairy if the transparently stupid idea worke because the author's on your side.

Anyway, why is their a fairy in the red HQ? Didn't you say you already purged all the wokies?

"They identified less with this country than with a trans-globalist ideology"

Trans-globalist? Like, colonising Mars?

"One of the hardest things to accept about our country today is that there are a significant number of Americans who wish death upon other Americans for political reasons."

"I wanted to talk about how vulnerable we were and, in many ways, still are, even though we now have a sentient president, a competent administration, and a sealed border."

Without Luke, they wouldn't have the Ewoks. The power to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force.

They actually made a really good show about Jedi struggling with the guilt of being failures and the internet hated it.

The music in the background is a clever reference to the Mule because this ad destroyed my hope.

Hmm.

Did you know that when making Encounter at Farpoint Patrick Stewart was very hungover and kept forgetting his lines? Unable to get a good take, Gene Roddenberry had the idea of naming the alien "Cue". #startrek

Hey, remember when Picard was a Cardassian prisoner? That was harrowing, wow. He's tortured by an ideologue. What if Miles O'Brien was also a Cardassian prison, and his lawyer is a wimp?

By the end of DS9, Cardassian prisons are less secure than Nottingham's dungeons.

The Marquis open up a new political space for Star Trek, which the DS9 writers completely missed then brought back Thomas Riker to do an inferior copy of The Wounded. (I don't get why people love DS9 so much.)
October 27, 2025 at 2:41 PM
The Wounded is a very good episode. The Marquis was good by DS9 standards. The Cardassians resemble pre-flanderisation Klingons, which are much more interesting, and Marquis, as extremists, introduce a new dimension to the Federation.

Everyone knew the captain would never have let Spock wear all that makeup if they weren't getting it on, but he was the captain so they couldn't say a thing.

But, to still be furious about it? When we have this?
