Really nice blog post from interconnection.fyi with some high-level generator interconnection queue metrics as of the end of 2024 #energysky www.interconnection.fyi/blog/2023-to...
2024: The Year the Queues Grew Up - Interconnection.fyi Blog
In 2024, interconnection queues across the U.S. shrank — not because demand disappeared, but because the rules changed.

We reported earlier on the massive backlog for grid interconnection. To better understand the dynamics and what solutions may be available, we just published “Grid connection barriers to renewable energy deployment in the United States,” in the journal Joule. THREAD! emp.lbl.gov/publications...

This is really good stuff. Again and again we hear about the value of trusted, neutral, unbiased intermediaries to help communities, landowners, and decision-makers understand and navigate trade-offs in large-scale R.E. siting. @dustinmulvaney.bsky.social illustrates here exactly why that matters
So this family from upstate New York called me about building a solar farm on their family property. They had concerns and wanted my advise. They started by saying, “we didn’t pull your name out of a hat.” They’d been reading my/our work for years apparently (!!).. so after a little phone tag…

I put together a starter pack of energy social scientists (distinct from the existing 'climate social science' starter pack). So far it's a small but mighty list. Please collaborate to help build this out!

Reminder: utilities should be treating load interconnection requests with the same lack of certainty as generator interconnection requests. These are not all real. Building infrastructure as if all of them are real carries huge costs for ratepayers if the large new loads don't materialize. Caution
New Georgia Power load forecasts just dropped. Your jaw will, too.
