Sad to hear. But what a life. And arguably his best years came after he stopped being president
Breaking news: Jimmy Carter, a no-frills and steel-willed Southern governor who was elected president in 1976, died Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia, according to his son. He was 100 and the oldest living U.S. president of all time.
Jimmy Carter, 39th president and Nobel Peace Prize winner, dies at 100, his son says
The tenacious Southerner was turned out of office after one term. But he had a brilliant post-presidential career as a champion of health, peace and democracy.

Tony Blair may think being in charge of the British embassy in Washington is like running an up market B&B, writes Jon Sopel. But with Trump back in charge, the job has never been more important or mo...

Momentous events in Syria this morning. The 54 year rule of the Assad family appears to be over, with rebel forces taking to state TV claiming President Assad has fled Damascus.

The prime minister has said he will hand over power to the opposition and has called for elections.

Astounding news from Syria overnight. But what a price the world - and not just the region - has paid for Assad’s determination to cling on: a refugee crisis that jolted European politics and still does, Obama faltering over red lines etc etc
