Another long format video up for the world to watch! I know, I know, thumbnails are sensationalist. If I were titling this one honestly I’d just call it “Berlin Olympiastadion”

First snow! Just passed my local kebab shop owner, who was making snowballs and chucking them at a billboard with a large photo of an older lady on. He told me he was going to hit her in the teeth, and he did it first time! So magical.

Absolutely gorgeous in Potsdam today. Will look the same the next two days.

Bonus: the Christmas market isn’t open yet so the centre isn’t super busy!

Markets aren’t even open yet and I’ve found the absolute best stand in Potsdam.

On top of this tasteful display they offer tasty favourites like warm aperol and warm caipirinha.

It got demonetised because of this 100+ year old sketch showing BOOB. I assume you’re too titillated to function after seeing it.

What now?

Former Stasi foreign intelligence chief Markus Wolf took to the stage and admitted the East German state was guilty of much, and that reform was needed.

The crowd weren’t exactly thrilled to hear from an establishment figure at this juncture. He was met with boos.

The Nazis extended Germany’s national bank and used it to store gold stolen from holocaust victims - including wedding rings and fillings - formed into gold bars.

The gold was then moved to a mine in Thuringia as the Soviets approached the capital in 1945. It was discovered by US forces.

Which is how we ended up with sombrero time in 1968, when East German leaders Ulbricht (left) and Honecker (right) met with medal winners from the 1968 Olympic Games, held in Mexico City that year.

While this was the official office of East Germany’s leaders, most of the real work took place in the Central Committee (ZK) building next door. This one was mainly used for meetings and ceremonial events.

The Staatsratsgebäude, built in 1964, served as the official seat of East Germany’s head of state, housing the offices of the State Council and its chairman.
