But that's how libel works Michael - repeating a libel is itself a libel. If the BBC decided they don't have the evidence to prove the claim then they can't say the claim.

I don't understand why the Resolution foundation are saying 1p on income tax would have meant these people pay less (and by implication that this would have been better) It is much easier to budget when your monthly income stays the same or goes up a bit rather than when your monthly goes down

Well if he'd said 'In my opinion' the BBC wouldn't have been able to cut the line based on their judgement that it was libellous

Here's some non libellous ways he could have made the same point. 'Many people believe Trump is the most openly corrupt president in history' or 'The Trump administration is the most openly corrupt in history' or even better just list the things which Trump has done

NO - that would be awful

No this isn't how libel works - libel is designed to stop people publishing things which aren't true. It is clearly true that it is his opinion that Trump is corrupt.

Libel laws apply to everyone, not just journalists. The text of his post wasn't giving an opinion it was a statement of fact. If he'd said 'In my opinion Trump is corrupt' that would probably have been fine but that wasn't his statement.

It’s got nothing to do with censorship. He isn’t being censored. The BBC has chosen to not broadcast a libellous statement.

That you don't understand why the BBC made this decision is exactly why you shouldn't be making that statement on national TV. Ask someone to get you this for Christmas global.oup.com/ukhe/product...

China reported 1,383 coronavirus deaths on February 14 2020. That was the information you could get from just reading the news.

I got the chance to be a test subject in one of the early vaccine trials. All the people I talked to, they really were exceptional people. I wish some of the anti vaxxers could have the opportunity that I did, they'd be less scared I'm sure.

My granddad's family lived in an almost identical house in Bermondsey when he was a child. His family lived downstairs, another family lived upstairs. He left school at 12 to work to pay the rent. Would have amused him no end to see those terraced houses become so desirable

Nice article thanks. Is it not the case that the kind of revenue needed to make LLMs a commercial success require a massive restructuring of the jobs market which in itself is likely to cause a recession?
