Can be a bit sweary at times and loathe Brexit. Still. Je serai toujours Européen
Might help if politicians got off their backsides and provided long overdue transport infrastructure in the North.
Leeds is a fantastic city.

Channeling Gordon Gekko. How very 1980s.
She is so far out of her depth.

Yes that was one of the points I was clumsily making. Here in the UK, despite Beeching, local services are really rather good and reliable.
I remember being rammed on a local service from Sitges to Barcelona once. Not an experience I care to repeat.

I do appreciate your point, but I think what's stark about UK intercity rail journeys is the eye watering cost and the over crowding.
By contrast in the UK my train from my village in to Birmingham has as many carriages as an intercity one and has much newer rolling stock.

Mainly because of the fact that 4 coach carriages seem to be the norm on that route (Plymouth - Edinburgh) and overcrowding is endemic.

As someone who regularly travels from Birmingham to Leeds and back on Cross Country, I'll take Renfe every day.
Interrailed in Spain in September. Madrid, Seville, Cadiz, Cordoba, Tarragona.
Train from Cadiz back to Seville was cancelled which meant we had to rebook our reservation for Cordoba
