Another funny slip of the pen: Vienna, ÖNB, Theol. gr. 294. The scribe replaced Μυκήνη and Μυκήνας (Mycene) with μὴ κύνη and μὴ κύνας (no dogs).

What a way to start a review of a critical edition! I still struggle to properly translate the pithy title of Skutsch and Kroll (@wilhelmkroll.bsky.social)'s article "In Firmicum Sittelianum emendationum centuriae duae primae" into German or English properly.

And here is another 11th century example from Vienna, Austrian National Library, Theol. gr. 294 (Diktyon 71961, Rahlfs 9078), f. 32v.
"Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."

First time I came across round brackets in a Greek ms. Oxford, Bodleian Library, Roe 4 (Diktyon 48387, Rahlfs 1125), f. 9v (16th century).

A slip of the pen can sometimes have funny implications. Like wenn ἐλέῳ θαρρεῖ ("he is strong in his mercy") becomes ἐλαίῳ θαρρεῖ ("he is strong in his olive tree").

"Myth Index" used to be a website about Greek #mythology, referenced by #Wikipedia. Sometime after 2020, it was apparently highjacked by somebody, and now offers 'casual hookups'. This strange turn is illustrated by the latest blogposts on the website (screenshot).

καιρός (kairós), the moment (in time), or in a pregnant way 'just the right and opportune moment' (to do, encounter or receive something), and extrapolated from that 'desirable state of affairs', is one of my #favoritegreekwords

One of my favourite NT quotations: ὅπου δύο ἢ τρεῖς συνηγμένοι εἰσὶν εἰς τὸ ἐμὸν ὄνομα, ἐκεῖ εἰμι ἐν μέσω αὐτῶν.
Wo zwei oder drei in meinem Namen versammelt sind, da bin ich mitten unter ihnen.

One of my favourite quotations from the Pauline Epistles: ἀλλ’ ἕπεται τῆ ἀγάπη τοῦ ἀγαπωμένου ἡ θεραπεία. ἡ γὰρ ἀγάπη πάντα στέγει· πάντα πιστεύει· πάντα ἐλπίζει· πάντα ὑπομένει· ἡ ἀγάπη οὐδέποτε ἐκπίπτει. (1 Cor 13:7-8)

Dude, I know the rules are the rules, but WHY IN GOD'S NAME would you separate ἐ-ν? It makes for really awkward reading!
