The only thing to do is learn more powerful voodoo
November 15, 2025 at 12:57 AM
Up until a couple of years ago I was getting someone who would periodically threaten me with voodoo.

If you're in front of people in a public way doing stuff that matters, a few of them will be unpleasant. Just part of it, I guess.

They could tell you but they'd have to ask chatgpt what their thought process was first

I think the newer one with the Amish had the right idea even if the execution wasn't great.

They could have easily done them as a loosely connected anthology series, and I think it could have been stronger.

Trying to expand on and explain a story that didn't really need it just ended up getting convoluted and repetitive.

There were, however, VHS cameras. They were only about 12 years out from Blair witch, which did fine with consumer video cameras.

I suppose now they could claim it was AI upscaled or something

I'm sure they felt that audiences wouldn't accept a film on VHS quality... But it kills the immersion and at this point it's hard not to think "oh man every guy who marries into this family gets super into video taping everything"

Most of these things can be solved by eliminating the assumption of operational alignment, and establishing ground rules to work together. Its annoying because it feels like you don't trust your partners, but it results in better outcomes in the long term

If you partner with an organization that you think aligns with your values, but asks you to not talk about vaccines because it is "too controversial," the alignment is only superficial. 4/

If you're writing an op-ed, the editor might simplify your argument in a way that makes it weaker, but easier to parse for a mainstream audience. Did you go into the interaction understanding the operational norms of an editorial page? 3/

Like it might make sense to work with someone with a large social media following to organize a protest, especially if they post a lot of stuff you agree with. But they might end up using your protest to promote themselves instead of using their following to promote the protest. 2/
